They aren’t frontline workers. They aren’t riding New York City subways. They aren’t stuck in jails or homeless shelters or other congregate facilities where the disease could spread easily.
The vast majority of New Yorkers still walking into hospitals with COVID-19 have been sheltering at home and avoiding mass transit. Very few were even traveling on foot or in their own cars on a daily basis, according to a survey of new patients from over 100 hospitals across the state over a three-day span. Of those surveyed, 66% were at home before entering the hospital.

I'm reading more and more how much these shelter-in-place orders have hurt us. We need to get out and go about our business. Most people have mild symptoms, many people have no symptoms. Recovery from C-19 is in the high 90%'s. We need to take of ourselves, yes, but we need not to be living in fear.  |

I'm reading more and more how much these shelter-in-place orders have hurt us. I can't find the link now, but I was reading an article a couple of days ago where a Dr was saying that the homemade masks that many people are making were doing more harm than good.
If I understood his argument correctly, many of these masks are made from material that is either too thick or has too many layers. As a result, they do not provide sufficient air flow, and this is causing people to re breath too much of their own Carbon Dioxide that they already breathed out.
Because of this re breathing of the carbon dioxide, even young otherwise healthy people are starting to develop chronic breathing problems, and some have even suffered heart attacks and strokes because their blood oxygen level has been falling way too low for extended periods of time.

Not sure I saw the article you're referring to, but I think Edward did because he mentioned this last evening. I saw an article that said you shouldn't wear an N95 mask longer than 2 or 3 hours without taking it off and giving yourself a break for the very reasons you mentioned above. I know some people are wearing an N95 mask, with a cloth mask over it(!), because they believe that will extend the life of the N95 mask. There's an article on Twitchy today about how the cloth masks really aren't helping - I think that Navy guy from CDC (I still respect him) is the one speaking. I'll read it later & may link it here if it's good.  |
