Isolation of older Americans prompts fears amid coronavirus

This is really important - to safeguard our ailing and homebound elderly.

This group often has a tough time getting to medical appointments, unless there are local programs that assist with rides. If programs are shutting down because of the coronavirus, how is that going to affect the elderly getting to their needed medical appointments? And so how will that affect their physical health and state of mind?

We delivered Mobile Meals for almost 3 years, on Friday mornings - that was our time, and our folks counted on us. They'd often be waiting by their doors, or sitting on their porches if they were able to go outside. They were so happy to chit-chat for even 5 minutes. We couldn't stay because we had more deliveries and some of the recipients were waiting on lunch to take medications. I can't imagine how devastating it would be to all of those people if the program was shut down even for a month.

We're going to have to make an effort as Christians to call, send cards, check on the elderly we know, the ones who are not in some sort of assisted living facility. Many of these people are so fragile, they could easily die - not from COVID-19, but from lack of medication, food, and human contact.
